Advertising On A Blog

Make Money Blogging

The question all bloggers have is, “How do I advertise on a blog to make money”?

Adsense

Most new bloggers add Google Adsense advertising to their site.  Adsense is free.  It is contextually sensitive and targeted advertising relevant to your blog content.  Google places advertising on a blog and you get paid when visitors click on the ad.  Many think it is the best advertising for monetizing sites.  This may be so, but relying soley on Adsense is a little short-sighted.  And unless you have huge traffic, you will not get rich quickly.  It is best to use as many different types of advertising  as possible, without looking cluttered.

As Adsense is to incoming traffic, ExitJunction is to exiting traffic.  It too is free and contextually sensitive.  A visitor searching for something in particular may end up at a certain site that does not satisfy their search and leaves the site by clicking on the “back” button.  ExitJunction redirects the visitor to a page containing search results most related to the term originally searched for.   It is kinda like Adsense in reverse.  If the visitor clicks further into a recommended site there is a pay-per-click program for the visit.

Affiliate Ads

Affiliate Advertising is one of the best ways to make money blogging.  Being an affiliate for products that are relevant is a tremendous method of funding your presence on the web and advertising on a blog.  Simply advertise their products and earn a commission for every sale linked to your ad.   There are many, many different affiliate programs; Amazon, ClickBank, CommissionJunction, RoiRocket, and LinkAShare to name only a very few big ones.   The key here is for the product to be relevant about your blog, thereby making the visitors highly targeted to that product.

Sponsored Posts

A Sponsored Post is where advertisers pay bloggers to write a review of a product or website.   ReviewMe.com and SponsoredReviews.com are only two sites for such services.  A blog has to have a posting history to be eligible and possibly some minimum ranking requirements.  However, some say Google is not kind to those who do it so it can be a Catch-22 for advertising on a blog.  But a sponsored post can be profitable to a blogger and bring good revenue to their site.

Direct Advertising

Direct Advertising is where one sells banner ads or text links for another site on their blog.  Most advertisers pay better for an ad spot than what you would earn from having your affiliate or AdSense ad there.  But this type of advertising on a blog will not attract any advertisers unless you have a lot of traffic or are in a unique niche with little competition.

Text Link Brokers

Text Link Brokers have a large advertiser base.  If it is easy for advertisers to find your site, you can sell some links.  Text link ads are a good way to make some extra income without adding much clutter to a site.  The more link authority and traffic your sites have, the more you make selling links for SEO purposes.

Using many different types of advertising on a blog at the same time is how you make the most money.  So be bold and use as much as possible….remember, “Internet Marketing is Advertising and Promoting”.

Interesting post that you have. I found a new one the other day. They look open , but very similar to linkedin.com with more of a social business directory look and feel. Nice clean interface though. Found it at SocialTerrain.com

    Hi Rosie,

Social Networks are the way in the future but I find them way too cluttered with people shouting “their opportunity”. That’s just me, I guess.
