As I got into this Internet Marketing thing, I did not know if I wanted to do Affiliate Marketing or Multilevel Marketing. I learned you can make money online with both, so I decided I wanted to do both.
Obviously, Affiliate Marketing of online informational products requires an online presence. But with Multilevel Marketing, many are unsure which comes first; an Internet presence or joining Multilevel Marketing. It is kinda like the old chicken vs. the egg question. Which does come first?
Many believe the age of the Internet has made MLM much easier. It is true, one has the ability to stand on a bigger platform and extol the beauties of MLM companies. However, it still requires someone to have faith and trust in you as a person, someone to be trusted, much more than the MLM company itself. Anyone pursuing online MLM marketing should know that by now.
What follows is a brief description as to what an MLM is and how it works. But remember, the business is not about the products nor the company. It is about the people involved in the business.
What is multilevel marketing?
Multilevel marketing (MLM—also called network marketing) is a way of distributing and selling products and services through a chain of independent distributors rather than through traditional retail outlets.
How does multilevel marketing work?
Each distributor has two basic jobs: (1) to sell the company’s products or services and (2) to recruit more distributors to sell the company’s products or services.
Each new recruit a distributor brings into the organization is, in turn, encouraged to bring in his or her own recruits. The result is that an active distributor eventually develops a hierarchical substructure known as a downline that looks somewhat like an organization chart in a company with a lot of employees.
Each distributor gets sales commissions on his or her own direct product sales. He or she also makes a commission on the sales of the distributors in their downline. There are also likely to be performance bonuses available for reaching certain sales levels.
Since each distributor profits not only from his or her own sales but from sales of the downline, it is to the advantage of the distributor to guide and help those below to succeed.
So that is how it works. People do not join companies. Rather, people join people. You must have a USP (unique selling proposal) for other people to want to join you in a business. And surprisingly, it’s not only true in Multilevel Marketing but in Affiliate Marketing too.

It is so true that no matter what company you are with people will only join if they know, like, and trust you.
It’s all about branding yourself as a leader in the eyes of your prospects and getting them to come to you. If you appear as someone others can learn from they will join you in any and everything you’re involved in.
You’re doing a great job Jerry, and I see big things in your future!
